Modo 302

June, 2008

I think I just found my new favorite 3D application. I've been a long-time user of 3ds max, Lightwave and several other 3D tools, and I will have to say that modo 302 blows them all out of the water (literally).

Modo 302, is easy to use, very intuitive and the learning curve is minimal for seasoned 3D modelers and artists.

Luxology recently released the 302 version and I can say without a doubt that modo will become my most often used 3D application.

After installing modo 302 on both my Windows and Macintosh OS X workstations I found that modo works well on both and is, as far as I can see, exactly the same under both operating systems. This is a definite plus in my book. Working in modo came natural once I become familiar with the user interface.

Modeling

Modeling is a breeze in modo 302. Modo has one of the quickest and easiest polygon modelers I have ever had the pleasure to work with. The UV mapping tools are literally a dream come true.

The painting tools are also just about the best thing I had ever laid my hands on. I get giddy thinking about how easy it is to create outstanding quality image maps and textures in modo 302. The modo sculpting tools are literally like shaping clay with your hands. It works so well it is almost uncanny.

Animation and rendering are also easy to pick up in modo 302. I just wish my skills were up to par in animation. I can tell you with modo 302 it won't be long before I do have great animation skills. Modo makes it that easy.

Below are several sample renderings from Modo 302. The work that can be created in modo is simply amazing and very life-like.

If you don't buy any other 3D tool this year, make sure you take a good look at modo 302, give it a try and you'll be hooked just like me.
