In this tutorial I'll show you another method for creative lettering.
I start out with Franklin Gothic Heavy lettering font and I want it large, so the point size will be 228.
Now type in the word KING or whatever word you like. Use the Expand option afterward.
Now we want to use the Envelope Distort option of Make with Warp.
I'll use Arc and set it to 30% Bend.
Select the Mesh tool.
Using the Mesh tool, make lines for the sides of the 'I' and the lower bottom of it.
Choose the Direct Selection tool.
Drag the point downward. Expand the selection.
Select the Eraser tool.
You can increase and decrease the size of the eraser using the bracket keys. Erase areas of the lettering.
Reduce the size of the eraser to it's smallest capacity. Erase lines in the lettering.
Select the Knife tool.
Cut the lettering in thirds.
Click on the Live Paint bucket.
Open the Earthtone swatches.
Paint areas of the lettering.
Create a duplicate of the lettering. Drop it below the current lettering. Outline with a stroke weight of 7 pts.
Place the above lettering slightly to the right and you have some very interesting lettering to use.
