Creating Seamless Tiles - Corel Paint Shop Pro 7 Tutorial

Vikki Olds

Creating seamless tiles in Paint Shop Pro 7 is a very painless process.

1 For simplicity I've used my bird photo to create a pattern that I'll use to create a seamless tile.

Open an image or photo.

2 Go to Effects>Relflection Effects>Pattern

As you can see from the screenshot below you have a lot of options and playing with the different settings will give you many different effects.

3 Below is what my bird photo turns into with the above settings.

4 To create the seamless tile you have to be careful to keep your selection area well away from the edges of the image or Paint Shop Pro will complain about it. If you want a large tile you'll need to start with a very large image. Below I used the Rectangle Selection tool to select the red outlined area you see below.

5 After you make your selection go to Selections>Convert to Seamless Pattern.

6 If your selection area is ok, Paint Shop Pro creates a new image with your seamless tile. The first image below is the seamless tile created by Paint Shop Pro from my selection and below that an HTML table using the seamless tile as a background to show that it truly is tiling properly.

7 Since I have a nice tile and it looks to me like it would make a nice texture that can be used with the drawing tools and texture effects.

In order to use a seamless tile you've created for a new built-in texture you need to save the file to the Paint Shop Pro Textures folder usually :

c:\Program Files\Paint Shop Pro 7\Textures.

Once you do that it is available from within Paint Shop Pro Tools.

8 There are many options in the Textures dialog that will create many different textures from one main one.

9 You can load the new seamless tile into the Textures selector and below I painted with the paint brush. As you can see it doesn't matter the color of your original. You can paint it any color you like.
