Family Christmas Cards - Adobe Photoshop Tutorial

Jacquelin Vanderwood

Find a family photo. I found this one on the web but you can do your own family which will bring lots more fun.
Access Liquefy and choose the Warp tool. Press the right bracket and left bracket to increase and decrease the size of the brush.

If you want to increase the nose size, make sure the brush size is no larger than the area you will manipulate. Use short strokes, not long ones to keep the integrity of the photo. Here I've restructured the noses a little. You can do a little area and press OK to exit Liquefy then return back into it.
If necessary up the strength of the brush.

Let's do the hair. Reduce the size of the brush and work in small increments. We want this picture to look as natural as possible when we're finished.
Select the Pucker tool. Reduce the size of the woman's eyes and the tip of her nose. Next, reduce the size of the boy's eyes and lips. Then, reduce the size of the man's hands.

Select the Bloat tool. Increase the area between the boy's eyes and also the woman's eyes. Increase one eye of the man and the nose of the girl. Increase the girl's tongue that is sticking out and widen her forehead. Increase the woman's lip size. Press OK to exit.

Now we want to choose the Burn tool. You'll want to select Highlight, then Shadow, and Midtones consecutively with an Exposure of about 11%. You'll have to test each area first. Remember, there is Control+Z to undo. I am adding shadows under the girl's nose, the one large eye of the man, his shoulder, the left side of the woman's face, and between the boy's eyes.

Next select the Dodge tool. I have wandered all over the people with this tool making highlights here and there.

Improve the color of the photo with Levels. Add some text and you're ready to have them printed and sent out to family and friends.

Before you finish, select the Smudge tool and reduce the brush size to the smallest available. Use the Eyedropper tool to select color in the area of the hair and add some natural looking hair to the people. Here are the before and after photos.
