Making a Folding Page - Photoshop CS2 Tutorial

Jacquelin Vanderwood

July 2006

Here's the book that I will use to make a folding page.

You'll need two pages on the right to make the book appear real so I've duplicated the page for this lesson.

What you'll want to do is create an alpha channel. Use Gaussian Blur to soften the edges.

Do a Select All and copy it, then flatten it. Save it as a new file.

With the top page layer selected, choose Distort>Displace and find the file you just copied and saved. Apply at Default settings.

The page will have to be manipulated with the Transform tool and moved into place.

Using a soft large brush paint a straight wide line through the page. Reduce the size of the brush and create more of a darker line in the binding area. Change to the Eraser tool and erase through the center. Use the Brush tool to add a white line. You can adjust the opacity of the layer to suit your needs. Now use the same procedure for the underlying page to create a shadow.

Hold the Alt key down, hover between the two layers and click.

So here we have the finished project.
