Liquid Looking Font – Photoshop Tutorial

Beatriz Mariniello

November, 2008

In this tutorial we will show you how to make a liquid font effect over wood in Photoshop.

Start a new document.
Import a wood texture image (which we are going to put our liquid text on).
Then, go to your channels palette and create a new channel.
In this newly channel we need to create our text and a few water droplets.

This is how it looks:

Now lets duplicate the channel.

Give some Gaussian Blur:

The glass filter will need a separate image to be used.
So lets duplicate this channel and write the following settings:

The image we created in this channel will now appear in its own window.
Save it as a PSD file, I call it "blur.psd".

After doing so, go back to your layers palette and duplicate you background image.

Now lets give a distort glass filter effect.

Now we need the import the BLUR.PSD into our layers palette.
Go to your channels palette and press ctrl +click on the unblurred image.
Then go back to your layers palette and create a new layer between the background layer and the Glassy layer, and with the selection still active fill the selection with black color:

Then, we need to join the text layer with the glass layer.
Right click the Glassy layer and choose: "Create Clipping Mask":

After doing so, select the layer that has your text on it and open up the layer Bevel and Emboss styles window.
Put the following settings:

Then, go to the Drop Shadow layer styles window.
Put the following settings:

Look how the image is looking like now:

Then, go to the Outer Glow layer styles window.
Set the following settings:

Now lets give some Inner Glow:

This is the result:

Its easy to do. =)
